Memories

It's mothers day, and I miss my grandma a lot. She was the light of my life, but most of the years I lived with her did not appreciated her as I should have.

Her advice was about 90% right most of the time, she was old school and even though she had a great sense of morality she knew sometimes the right thing to do, wasn't always the legal thing to do.

When she passed away it really hurt, and when I think about that moment when she left this world in that hospital bed tears comes to my eyes, so I've always tried to avoid that memory.

Yesterday, my wife reminded me about my grandma, not something I wanted to hear to be honest.

Every once in a while I recall a moment with her, back in New York and here in Florida... her smile, her kindness, her sagely advice which I almost always ignored. I wish I had listened.

She forgave me for all the stuff I did in my life, my 20's was full of mistakes and opportunities to grow and become a better person which were utterly ignored by me.

The old saying "Young and Stupid".... I was the poster boy for that one.

I wish I had spent more time with her during the last years of her life. I miss her cooking, specially the ceviche she made for me.

She worked hard to get her only daughter her (my so-called mother), saving for years, spending thousands and that.... woman came to the states, then just left because she didn't want to be separated from her man (the rapist) and my half brother (his son)... whom eventually could have brought here anyways.

I guess all worked out in the end, no chance to see her face here. She is the main reason I want to forget Mothers Day.

Overall the day is too sad for me, so today I will immerse myself into Anarchy Online (more so than usual) and maybe watch a movie to keep my mind occupied.

Weird moment of the day: Why does my cat loves to sit inside and on top of boxes?

Sorry

For the time being I can't update the blog, my life is not doing so well right now. I'm financially drained, my scooter broke down, still illegal and now my wife has been diagnosed with Lupus.

Nothing is going as I hoped, nothing. I feel invisible to the whole world.

Maybe I'll do an update August, on my birthday, maybe by then something will change for the better.

Movie Reviews

Alright, as I promised yesterday, movie reviews, here we go.

Vantage Point is a 2008 thrill fest. Terrorists attack Spain during an anti-terrorist summit. The President of the United States is shot and there is plenty of twists, turns and action However as the title says, it all depends on a person's point of view. You'll see the same action a few times over, from the perspective of different people, the president, a secret service man, men blackmailed into helping the terrorists, an american tourist and the terrorists themselves. It does become a bit repetitive, but the action is shot from different angles and you catch and understand stuff better as the plot thickens. It's a good movie with an unexpected ending. A good rent, and I'd say a good consideration if you're looking to buy a decent dvd. I recommend it.

Dan in Real Life is a nice 2007 a drama/romance/comedy with one of my favorite comedic actors, Steve Carell. His character is an advice columnist who is widowed for a few years, taking care of his three daughters and having to deal with their needs above his own. During a family reunion he goes out shopping and meets a woman he becomes interested in. His surprise is that when he gets back to his family, his brother introduces his girlfriend to him, the same women he met earlier. This leads to a struggle of emotions on his part, and hers. Things get complicated and his actions lead to the family falling apart. I won't go past that, because you'll want to see the rest. A good rent and a great dvd buy for anyone who likes drama, romance and a bit of comedy combined. I highly recommend it

2007's Before The Devil Knows You're Dead is one of the best thrillers I've seen. Two brothers in debt struggle with their personal and financial problems. The older one is a drug addict and has been using company funds to buy drugs while his wife is having an affair with another man. The younger brother is having a tough time keeping up with alimony payments to keep his daughter in a good school. Their desperation to fix their financial woes lead to a robbery of a jewelry store. Unfortunately things don't go as planned, and what was meant to be an easy job where nobody gets hurt, ends up with the death of two people. This leads to an unexpected series of consequences that neither brother ever expected. Ethan Hawke, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Albert Finney give a superb performance and combined with a good storyline makes this a great movie to rent and a must-have dvd purchase. I highly recommend it.
